As I gazed up into the sky, the stars were invisible, a reflection of the current state my life had plunged into. To me, stars symbolized the promise of bright things on the horizon, or the arrival of good fortune in one’s life. But for me, fate had chosen a different path.

“Why is this happening to me?” I yelled, tears streaming down from my eyes, tracing a path down my cheeks. My fists clenched tightly, as if searching for something to release my anger upon. If a tree stood before me, I would have undoubtedly pounded it with all my might. The hurt and pain had become unbearable, and I longed for a way to make it all vanish.

Everything I had toiled for, everything I had built, was now gone. No one wished to stand by my side in this desolation. They all abandoned me. Why? Just because the wealth had slipped through my fingers? I had lost my company to a deceitful project that I had embarked upon in hopes of expansion, unaware of the fraudsters lurking in the shadows. To make matters worse, it turned out my best friend had known all along. Yet, what did she do? She chose silence, using my vulnerability as a means to exact revenge for my rejection of her advances. What a cruel twist of fate! The people you trust the most often turn out to be the ones who betray you.

And now, I stood alone on a desolate hill, the cool night air enveloping me, with no destination in sight, and no one to share my thoughts with. I contemplated what my life would become in the coming days, weeks, and perhaps months.

What’s next? What path lies ahead? What steps should I, Philip Ade, take now? Philip questioned himself, squatting with his shoulders drooped and both palms pressed firmly against his face.

What would be Philip’s next move?

To be continued…
